Climbing Techniques overview

Whether you’re Rock Climbing or Bouldering, you’ll always come across edges and holds that require a specific technique to hold on to them as tightly as possible. Sometimes a specific grip is the only way to complete your climb.

Learning about the different grips has helped me tremendously in becoming a better climber faster. I’d like to help you do the same thing – and that’s why you can find on this page all my tips on climbing grips and techniques you’ll possibly ever need to know.

Here’s some of the most common climbing techniques:

  • Smearing
  • Mantling
  • Deadpointing
  • Dropknee
  • Knee bar
  • Heel Hook
  • Palming
  • Crimping
  • Gastons

Additionally, for rock climbing other techniques come into play, such as how to belay.

Climbing technique becomes increasingly important as you work your way up the difficulty ladder of climbing. Don’t be like me and find out the hard way ;-) I hope you’ll find these tips useful!
